FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THIS?

This is a batt system with removable tiles used for pottery, typically for when you want to make smaller items like mugs, bowls and vases. The tiles can be quickly switched out after throwing, without disturbing delicate work. Because the tiles are compact (5.25"), less space is taken up by work that is drying.

CAN I USE THIS WITH MY WHEEL?

Yes! Simple Batt will fit on any wheel with batt pins that are spaced 10" apart, including wheels from:
- Shimpo / Nidec, both 12" or 14" heads
- Brent / Amaco
- Pacifica
- Skutt

Because Simple Batt is made from MDF, custom holes may be drilled, and requests are welcome.

HOW BIG ARE THE BATT AND TILES?

The main batt is 11.5" in diameter, and tiles are 5.25" square. Pre-drilled holes 10" apart, and are 3/8" in diameter. The entire set is milled from 0.5" medex material. You're welcome to make your own tiles (5.25" square, 0.5" thick); however, they are available for $5 each, or 12 for $50 (a $10 savings over purchasing tiles one at a time)

HOW MUCH IS A SET AND WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

Each set consists of a main batt and 4 tiles. Sets are available for $55 plus a shipping charge, which can be waived if pick-up can be arranged.

WHAT ARE THE BATT AND TILES MADE OF?

Currently all Simple Batts are made of a moisture resistant MDF product called Medex. The material is produced in Medford, Oregon, and consists of 92% post-consumer recycled content with no formeldehyde added during its production process. Additional information is available in the 'DETAILS' section below.

HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY BATT AND TILES?

Please do not leave either batt or tiles in standing water while not in use. It's recommended that batt and tiles be stood on edge while drying, to allow water to quickly evaporate from both exposed surfaces.

Simple Batts perform best after a brief break-in period, where its material settles in after repeated exposure to water. Before using Simple Batt on the wheel, take care to ensure that the surface of the wheel is clean, especially around the batt pins where clay and debris may accumulate. Finally, a chamois or batt pad is highly recommended!
